Dear Mr Baxter

On behalf of Christian Aid I would like to thank Baxter's Jewellers for your recent donation of £1,820.66 from sales of Ortak jewellery on your website. Your continued support has now raised a total of £4,700.72 for Christian Aid, which will help us support some of the world's poorest and most vulnerable communities.

An example of the work you are supporting is that of AMO-Congo, a Congolese NGO that works with vulnerable children who have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS. According to UNAIDS, by the end of 2003 an estimated 770,000 children had lost one or both parents to the disease.

Veronique is a widow whose husband died from AIDS in 1995, leaving her with 4 children - the youngest at that time was just 2 years old.

AMO-Congo provided training on how to run a business, and supplied oil and dried fish as capital. They also helped with medical treatment for her youngest son, who suffers from sickle cell anaemia. Veronique now runs a successful food shop in Lubumbashi, and comments on the impact of AMO-Congo's work:

"Before we depended on cultivating the soil and I couldn't afford to send the children to school. It was really hard to get food and to pay the rent. The big difference that [AMO-Congo] has brought to my life is that before I was very sad and I wasn't sure of the future for my children but now I feel like I am supported"
